Town to help with fair’s food drive
The Middlebury Fire Department will be helping the Elkhart County 4H Fair staff in their attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest single-day food drive. The Elkhart County Fair has named its quest the “All In Food Drive” as it attempts to collect at least 565,000 pounds of food in a 24-hour period.
The Middlebury Fire Department members will attempt to fill an ambulance with food collected during the Third Fridays block party Friday. Food should be taken to Jerry’s Standard at Main and Warren streets from 5 to 8 p.m. A fire department crew will then transport the food to the fairgrounds in Goshen Sunday or Monday.
“It’s always wonderful to have a project like this to show other folks in Elkhart County what Middlebury can do” said Sam Pohl, Middlebury Chamber of Commerce director. “Middlebury always answers the call for someone in need. This project is a great one and to be able to organize during the monthly Third Fridays event is even better. It’s a chance to be a part of history.”
Third and Purl closed for the week
Contractors have closed the intersection of Third Street and Purl Street for the remainder of the week for the River Race Drive Reconstruction project, according to Goshen Engineering Department officials.
