At the close of the afternoon, refreshments were served by Mrs. Maymie Fredericks, hostess, and Mrs. Court acted as Santa Claus for the gift exchange.
A round-robin letter was written to Mrs. Herschel Sperry of Grand Rapids, Mich., who was unable to attend.
Others present included Mrs. Harold Hale, Mrs. G.E. Miller, Mrs. Orie D. Zook, Mrs. Eli Gerber, Miss Edna Graff and Mrs. Gilvie Gorsuch, a resident of Fountainview.
Saturday morning fun
Many Goshen youngsters have been taking advantage of the Goshen Park and Recreation Department’s Saturday morning recreation program. Those recently “having a ball” at the Chandler gym were Rose Byers, Jennifer Hetler, Jamie Harrison, Debbie Miller, Deana Harrison, Jennifer Metzler and Becky Leatherman, supervised by Marty Gaff. The program is open to all elementary-school children and a new program is being offered this year for preschool children. Details on times and locations are available at the Shanklin Park office.
Bulls bow to Suns
Dick Van Arsdale, with 23 points, led a balanced Phoenix scoring attack that swamped the Chicago Bulls 114-97 in National Basketball Association play Sunday night.
Four of the five Phoenix starters were in double figures including Keith Erickson with 18, Alvan Adams with 20 and Paul Westphal with 19.
Five Goshen girls qualify for state meet
Five Goshen High School swim girls Saturday qualified for the state meet next weekend at Ball State University, as a result of their performances in the Elkhart Sectional.
Beth Moyer qualified in the 50 freestyle by topping the state cut-off time with a 27.6 clocking while taking fourth. Penny Hoffman advanced in diving by posting 349.70 points to better the state standard.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Jill Fult, Moyer, Ann Swoveland and Nancy Morris took a second place in 4:12.5 to qualify for the state. Also scoring well for Goshen were Helen Ahonen with sixth placings in the 50 and 100 breaststroke events, Jill Fult fifth in the 200 free, Morris a fifth in the 100 free and the medley relay team of Fult, Ahonen, Moyer and Swoveland with a fifth.
