Eight seeking Miss Elkhart County crown

THE GOSHEN NEWS

ELKHART, Ind. — The Miss Elkhart County, Miss Elkhart County Oustanding Teen and the Miss Elkhart County Princess Program are planned for Saturday at Elkhart Central High School at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children 12 and younger and senior citizens. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

The contests for Miss Elkhart County are:

Jennifer Sharkey

Jennifer Sharkey is the 17-year-old daughter of Brian and Shelly Sharkey. She is a senior at Bethany Christian High School. She plans to attend Indiana University and major in Pre-Physical Therapy.

Sharkey will promote her platform: “Promoting Independence for Those Living With Disabilities.”

She will be performing a vocal arrangement to a popular country music selection.



Katie Hrynewycz

Katie Hrynewycz is the 22-year-old daughter of Steve and Barbara Hrynewycz and a graduate of Goshen High School. She will be graduating in December from Ball State University with a degree in exercise science.

Hyrnewycz will promote her platform “Health and Fitness for Life.”

She will be fiddling to “Orange Blossom Special.”

Jackie Jerlecki

Jackie Jerlecki is the 19-year-old daughter of Matt and Natalie Jerlecki and is a graduate of Goshen High School. She is currently a sophomore at Bowling Green State University majoring in musical theater.

She will promote her platform “Express Yourself — Supporting the Arts in School.”

Jerlecki will perform a vocal arrangement to “Astonishing.”



Mekayla Fawn Diehl

Mekayla Fawn Diehl is the 19-year-old granddaughter of Katie and Ted Sautter and is a sophomore at Albion College majoring in psychology. She is promoting her platform “4-H: Making the Best Better.”

Diehl will perform a hip-hop/jazz routine to “Drop It On Me.”



April Diane Miller

April Diane Miller is the 22-year-old daughter of Kevin and Georgiana Miller and a graduate of Concord High School. She is majoring in music education/vocal general at Ball State University.

Miller has chosen to promote “Thyroid Disease: An Unseen Killer” as her platform.

She will perform a vocal arrangement to “Mein Herr Marquis” laughing song from “Die Fledermaus.”



Jill Scholten

Jill Scholten is the 21-year-old daughter of Juul and Julie Scholten and is majoring in telecommunications and political science at Ball State University.

Scholten will promote her platform “Exercise: It Does a Body Good.”

She will be performing a dance routine to “Bleeding Love.”



Janessa Reames

Janessa Reames is the 18-year-old daughter of Steven and Dawn Reames and is a senior at Elkhart Memorial High School.

Reames is promoting her platform “Be Beautiful Be Healthy: The Prevention of Skin Cancer.”

She will perform a vocal arrangement to “It’s An Art” from the musical “Working.”



Allison Smart

Allison Smart is the 17-year-old daughter of Wayne and Deanna Smart and is a senior at Concord High School.

She has chosen to promote “Save a Life-Adoption Over Abortion.”

Smart will perform a flute solo.
