‘Rescuing Superwoman’ topic of Retreat event

Women tend to think they need to be Superwoman in their daily lives — handling everything and anything that comes their way with the ease and speed of a super hero, according to local health care workers.

“No matter how much we might want super human powers — or think they are expected of us — none of us are Superwoman,” said Laurie Busby, executive director of The Retreat Women’s Health Center. “We aren’t invincible. As women we need to take care of ourselves and know how to address our health at every age.”

To help remind women of this, The Retreat Women’s Health Center is asking women to slow down, hang up their capes and let the Saturday Morning Retreat do the rescuing. It’s all about “Rescuing Superwoman” at the July 12 event from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at The Retreat Women’s Health Center, 1135 Professional Drive, Goshen.

Leading the morning will be Dr. J. David Spencer, board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with The Retreat Women’s Health Center. Dr. Spencer will discuss women’s heath and provide guidelines for necessary screenings — from mammography to bone density — which women should follow as they age.

Also present will be Dr. Aroop Banerji, naturopathic doctor and licensed acupuncturist, to talk about stress management using yoga and acupuncture. Another stress relieving technique will be demonstrated by licensed esthetician Jennifer Kveton, as she demonstrates how to do an at-home facial.

“Finding healthy, helpful ways to eliminate stress can do wonder’s for a woman’s overall health,” said Busby. “We want to give women tools to not only stay healthy as they age, but tips on escaping the everyday stressors that we all face.”

To make a reservation for the July 12 Saturday Morning Retreat, call 537-5000. A $5 donation is requested for Saturday Morning Retreats to go to the Heart Strings Sisters to provide screening mammograms for uninsured community women.
