A lack of common sense in D.C.

— It continues to amaze me at the lack of common sense that continues to rear its ugly head in Washington. I realize it is not one party only, however, anyone with this aforementioned “common sense” can see the lack of leadership from President Obama is doing nothing to help the spending or deficit problem. He is singularly responsible for leadership but exhibits nothing but sarcastic criticism for anyone disagreeing with him.

I was still in grade school when I worked for a neighbor by planting, hoeing and picking berries in her garden. I literally worked for pennies a day but I had some money of my own. Even at that early age I learned about earning and spending and that you do not and cannot spend what you don’t have. If I wanted something that I didn’t have money for, I waited until I did have enough to buy it. It gave me a true sense of worth and accomplishment that I would not have had if I depended on someone else buying it for me. It is quite clear that President Obama and many other Washington politicians don’t have that knowledge. They spend our money at will, whether to curry favor or possibly even buy votes.

Many of our state and national parks have signs instructing visitors not to feed the wild animals because they will learn to depend on handouts and will not hunt for their food. Clearly, too many of our leaders and other Americans have already learned what we are trying to keep the animals from learning.

Speaking of spending our money, Obama flew to Las Vegas to deliver at 20-minute speech on immigration. The cost to fly Air Force One more than 4,000 miles roundtrip would be at least $1.2 million, meaning that speech cost approximately $60,750 per minute and could have been given in Washington just as easily.
