Safety along C.R. 35 is a concern

— This letter is meant to bring awareness and hopefully corrections in regard to C.R. 35 in Elkhart County. Something needs to be done immediately to enforce the laws pertaining to the use of C.R. 35.

Anyone living on C.R. 35 can testify to the total disregard of the laws. We have called, complained, spoken to officials, but nothing changes. How many deaths will it take? This is a particularly busy connecting road between Goshen and Middlebury with many horse-drawn vehicles, automobiles, cyclists and pedestrians. It is used by many school children.

There is an Amish school at the intersection of C.R. 35 and C.R. 28 that has a flashing light as well as a sign. There are hills on both sides of the intersection that hinder the view of the upcoming school. Every day vehicles speed along with total disregard to this very dangerous area. There are many hills and rises all along this road that make it very difficult to see what’s coming ahead.

Disregard of the speed limit, road signs, painted single and double no-passing lines and flashing signal lights have caused many accidents and hundreds of near-accidents. The worst times are early morning when people are going to work and children are going to school, then again in the afternoon when returning from work and school. Those are the hours that need to be watched and patrolled. We understand time and money are involved, but how much are human lives worth?

A petition asking that something be done is being signed by residents living on C.R. 35, parents/families of school children, persons frequently using C.R. 35 and all persons concerned with the total disregard of above-mentioned laws being broken continuously day after day. The attention and response of (county leaders) will be greatly appreciated.
