Rieth Park makes a splash

— For many Goshen News subscribers the delightful front page photo in the Aug. 30 issue, taken at the Rieth Park splash pad is a familiar scene. Residents of this neighborhood, plus many people from the surrounding area, enjoy the splash pad and this pleasant park.

We are grateful for the leadership of Park Superintendent, Sheri Howland who had the foresight to add the splash pad. It has enriched the opportunities for neighbors to meet and children to get acquainted when enjoying the cool spray on a hot day.

Rieth Park is also a distribution location for the summer free lunch program where Mary Mast of the Goshen Community Schools efficiently and kindly distributes lunches to any child from 1 to 18. This service offers another opportunity for families to get acquainted.

Since 2003 the Rieth Park area has had a neighborhood association thanks to the LaCasa neighborhood organization and assistance program. Rieth Park is often the center of our activities. The park department employees do the hard work of supplying extra tables for the annual ice cream social.

A plot of land thoughtfully donated by the William and Beth Rieth family to the city park department in about 1975 provides ongoing benefits for the community. Their children and families maintain an ongoing interest in the park and what happens there.

Many thanks go to the daily work of the park department employees who keep it clean and pleasant.

This is just one example of many things and people working together for the common good.  It makes Goshen a special place.
