Goshen has all the elements needed to attract businesses

We Goshenites know what our current economic woes will mean for us as a city. What we do know is that within the past decade, good things have been happening in Goshen, creative efforts on the part of many that should stand us in good stead at this crucial moment in U.S. history. Indeed, our mayor and his council and commissions, our churches and civic groups, our financial institutions, entrepreneurial individuals with plenty of energy and imagination have, together, given new sparkle to our downtown and a corresponding new spirit of community to many of our neighborhoods.

Another essential ingredient in this successful mix has been LaCasa, a prime mover in helping to coordinate many of these efforts. Boldly daring and innovative, yet in a fiscally responsible way, LaCasa continues to accept new and greater challenges in Goshen, throughout Elkhart County and beyond.

I appreciate the fact that our City Council has chosen to support these efforts by means of a short-term loan, our share toward obtaining a major grant ($2.8 million) for Goshen’s Neighborhood Stabilization Project.

It is precisely these elements: an attractive townscape, well-maintained parks and playgrounds, a wide range of cultural events (think Goshen College, our downtown arts and stage centers, Diversity Day, Goshen’s Neighborhood Games, special school programs), medical facilities second to none, and a forward-looking citizen spirit, all of which will attract new enterprises to locate in Goshen and vicinity.
