Royal Rock (Oct. 6 letters) asks, “Are you better off now than four years ago?” The Associated Press recently reported that the estimated deficit for 2012 at $1.1 trillion, the fourth straight year of trillion dollar deficits on President Barack Obama’s watch. The deficit is higher than any other president since 1947. The Congressional Budget Office reports that the government borrows 31 cents for every dollar it spends. Foreign governments hold about 46 percent of all U.S. debt held by the public, more than $4.5 trillion. The largest foreign holder of U.S. debt is China, which owns more about $1.2 trillion, according to the Treasury.
The president wants to penalize the successful and wealthy. The government could tax the wealthy at 100 percent and it wouldn’t make a dent in the government’s out-of-control spending. That’s just a campaign smoke screen to make you think he has a plan. And when you give bail-out money to people, banks and corporations that aren’t fiscally responsible, they will just be asking for more money. I hope and pray that voters see the benefits in being able work to achieve success without being penalized for it. The socialist one class society that President Obama is pushing will not work and has never worked.
No, we are not as a country better off than we were four years ago. The governments answer is to raise the debt limit and continue spending as before. The president doesn’t have a working budget, doesn’t have a plan, and is not a leader. I don’t need another four years to see what he can do, he’s done enough. It’s time to change and find someone responsible, and accountable to make us the world leader that we once were.
