Our congress is now considering taking steps toward disarming our nation’s citizens. This is in direct violation of our Constitution’s Second Amendment, which states in part that, “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Our nation is caught up in the emotion of recent shootings of children and feel justified in stripping our citizens of their right to bear arms. Weapons not only take life. They protect lives too.
In this same mindset shouldn’t we then strip doctors of their tools of trade? These same instruments of protecting life have also been used for a mass killing of our nation’s unborn children that has spanned a period of 40 years, killing more than 40 million. We have far exceeded the genocides of Hitler and Stalin.
Let us consider the land of Nineveh of old. When God through Jonah confronted this nation with their sin and told them they would be destroyed in 40 days, the Bible says the people responded by believing God. They repented. Both man and beast wore sackcloth and ashes. God’s wrath was turned and the nation continued intact for another 150 years.
Our legislative and executive branches of government cannot cure our nation’s ills by laws and regulations. The sins of our nation against God and man are legion. Would to God that our nation’s leaders and people repent of our sins and turn and be healed.
“Saith the lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And tear your heart and not your garments, and return unto the lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness and (I may) relent from doing harm. — Joel 2:12-13
