Immigration reform is once again a hot item with the Obama Administration even though the public doesn’t rank it as a high priority according to a recent Pew Research study. So why is this issue on the front burner, along with homosexual marriage, for Obama’s second term? Could it be the administration is looking at the 12- to 15-million illegals in this country being potential Democrat voters? The answer to that question is obvious since polls have shown that Hispanics and Asians usually support the party of entitlements, that being the Democrats. So don’t fool yourself into believing that they are pushing amnesty for illegals for reasons of compassion.
The illegals have come to this country for economic reasons and economic reasons only. They come here because there are jobs here; jobs that are given to them by law-breaking employers who care about only one thing, the bottom line. Because the illegals live in the shadows, they are taken advantage of by the employers who pay them sub-standard wages with limited benefits and not much of a voice to complain about conditions. It’s a form of modern-day slavery.
And, unlike the immigrant explosion early in the last century, many of these migrants are not coming here to become citizens. The recent Pew study found that the majority of the Mexican immigrants who are in the county legally and are eligible to become citizens have not done so for a variety of reasons. Nearly two–thirds of the 5.4 million legal immigrants from Mexico eligible to become citizens have not done so. Their naturalization rate of 36 percent is half that of legal immigrants from all other countries combined. They don’t value America, but rather value the conditions Americans have created which, absent of Americans, don’t exist.
