LETTERS FOR MARCH 26, 2014: Passage didn’t go far enough

Goshen News

---- — Passage didn’t go far enough

In regard to Paul Steury’s letter to the editor, (The Goshen News, March 19), it is convenient that he only quotes the Scripture John 8:1-7, but fails to read the rest of the passage, John 8:8-11.

8) Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9) At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10) Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11) “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

By not including this part of the passage, you imply that as Christians we should accept adulterous behavior, or as in the previous writer’s letter about homosexuality, that we should accept homosexual behavior. Jesus, however, does not make such a statement. He does make it clear that we should not be the judge and jurors as we are all sinners and need Jesus’ mercy and love, but he also makes it clear that such behavior is sin and should be left behind.

It might be helpful to read Gen. 2:20-24, Matt. 19:3-8, Mark 10:2-12, and Romans 1:18-26 where Jesus speaks of marriage and Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles (us), speaks of sexual immorality and homosexuality.

At the door of God’s judgment

Wake up, church. Can’t you see nations falling apart, even our own? No good news, all is negative. But that’s what God said in his word would be at the end of time. But the church is to be the example to them all on how to live and have victory in knowing God is still in control.

But the church has gotten careless and has forgotten her calling and is pleasing itself and not keeping God’s word alive. We are called to sacrifice our lives for those who know not God. We cannot live like the world if we expect them to see God’s truth. The Old Testament is full of those who ruled Israel. Some kept God’s laws and were blessed. Others failed and brought God’s judgment on the whole nation. Then when they became slaves they cried to God whole heartedly and he delivered them.

America, you are being judged. Our leaders are making evil decisions, like abortion and sodomy, that brought God’s judgment on nations before to show us God cares about his word. We are at the door of God’s judgment, America. It’s the church that needs to repent.
