Resident cheers city official’s action

I would like to express my sincere thanks to Mary Cripe and the city of Goshen’s Engineering Department for their prompt response to my request concerning pedestrian safety.
On April 30, while crossing with the “walk” sign in a pedestrian crosswalk, my 5-year-old son came within a foot of being plowed down by a vehicle turning left from Westwood onto Main Street.
I sent an e-mail to Goshen’s Engineering Department that same day inquiring about installing additional signage reminding drivers to yield to pedestrians. Cripe responded promptly.
This morning, Conrad and I cheered when we spied the two new, highly visible signs at that intersection, reminding drivers that left turns must yield to pedestrians.
Now, if we could only get all drivers to follow Indiana law and yield to all pedestrians who are lawfully within a crosswalk, this city would become a much more pedestrian-friendly place.
