Artwork sought for suicide prevention

The loss of a loved one by suicide can leave you in a dark and depressed place. You may never get completely out of that place but you can heal. One form of healing is by helping others to cope and to heal.

The Elkhart County Suicide Coalition is requesting your help. We have received a Genesis Grant from the city of Elkhart for a community project. We are looking for people who are willing to express their feelings through art by using canvas, charcoal, crayons, oils or whatever choice you may desire.

Your artwork will be displayed on Sept. 6 at Mental Health America of Elkhart County at 1010 N. Main St. as well as other locations at a later date. Your art will allow other people who have lost loved ones by suicide to see that they are not alone.

This also kicks off the annual Suicide Prevention/Awareness Walk which will begin at 10 a.m. at Mental Health America and finish by noon (registration opens at 9:45 a.m.).

We ask that you title your work, but, if you desire, your name can remain anonymous. There are limited funds available to help purchase art supplies.
