Fox to seek Meeks’ seat

THE GOSHEN NEWS

Brad Fox recently announced that he will run in this weekend’s Republican caucus to replace retiring state Sen. Bob Meeks

The former state representative from Rome City, will run for the Republican nomination to fill the ballot vacancy.

Fox served as the state representative for a large portion of Noble and LaGrange counties when Meeks began his legislative career 20 years ago.

Fox was first elected to the General Assembly in 1980 at age 28.

He served 12 years under both Republican and Democrat governors.

He was a member during the first ever 50-50 split when the House was evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats and has served as both a majority and minority member of the House.

During that time, he was a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and worked with school funding. He served as chairman of the School Finance Subcommittee of Ways and Means in 1985, 1987 and 1989.

He also was a member of the Natural Resources, Constitutional Law and Cities and Towns committees.

He chaired, vice chaired or was a member of a number of interim study committees throughout his term, including School Finance, Education, Special Education, Project Safe and Health Care Cost.

Fox has experience in both the private and public workplaces. While serving as a state representative, he worked for Rieth-Riley Construction from 1973 to 1989 as a dispatcher, office manager and acting division manager.

From 1989 to 2000 he worked for J.O. Mory Inc. in office and sales management.

Since 2001, Fox has been self employed as a legislative consultant representing clients in Indiana and other states throughout the Midwest. He has maintained a presence in the Indiana General Assembly since 2001 as a regional consultant and contract lobbyist.

Fox, 56, and his wife Paula are the parents of two adult sons and the grandparents of four grandchildren.
