WARSAW, Ind. — Incumbent Kosciusko County judges received their party’s nominations Tuesday.
Republicans Joe Sutton, judge of Superior 3, and James C. Jarrette, judge of Superior 2, defeated their opponents, though the amounts were not substantial.
Jarrette received 3,978 votes and Torrey Bauer received 3,398 votes — a win by 580 votes.
Sutton received 3,924 votes and Michael Valentine received 3,613 votes — a difference of 311 votes.
Sutton was out collecting signs when he heard the news.
“I just want to thank everyone who voted for me. My family has been working so hard. We’re thrilled and we’re exhausted,” Sutton said.
Sutton said he had no idea whether or not he would win the contest.
“You just don’t know, especially with talk of people crossing over. There’s so many variables, it’s hard to know,” he said.

Kosciusko County treasurer candidate Sue Ann Mitchell won at the polls Tuesday, collecting 4,084 of the 7,274 Republican votes cast.
“I’m shocked,” Mitchell said. “I thought I stood no chance, I’m amazed. I thought Cindy Nolton did such a good job. I certainly do appreciate everyone’s support.”
Mitchell has run for public office before.
“This is the fifth time I’ve ran for office and the first time I’ve had any competition,” she said, adding jokingly that “I think I prefer it the other way.”
No Democratic candidates filed for any of those races. However, the party still has several months to slate candidates if it wants.
Unopposed in the Republican primary were:
• Judge Superior 1 — Duane G. Huffer
• Clerk of Circuit Court — Jason F. McSherry
• County Coroner — John E. Sadler
• County Surveyor — Richard Kemper
• County Commissioner Northern District — Brad Jackson
• County Commissioner Middle District — Ronald D. Truex
• County Council At Large — Thomas Anglin, Robert Sanders and Larry Teghtmeyer
Unopposed in the Democratic primary was County Council at large candidate Danny Damron.
