LaGrange County Council GOP at large race: Steven E. McKowen

Steven E. McKowen, 4935 E. 580 South, Wolcottville, is one of four candidates seeking the GOP nomination for LaGrange County Council at large.
McKowen’s served on the County Council since 2004.
He is a member of LaGrange First United Methodist Church, vice president of the LaGrange County Library Board of Trustees, vice president of the LaGrange County Economic Development Commission, LaGrange County Park Board liaison to the County Council and LaGrange County Chamber of Commerce member.
McKowen’s also involved with Retail Bakers of America, vice president of the Midwest Bakery Deli Association, state board member of the Indiana Association of Realtors, National Realtor Association, Northeast Indiana Board of Realtors trustee, National Auctioneers Association and Indiana Auctioneers Association.
McKowen graduated from Lakeland High School in 1987. He purchased his first business, Foltz Bakery, in 1994 and graduated from the Retail Bakers Association in 1997 and was designated a certified master baker. He was a charter graduate of Leadership LaGrange 1997, was a speech and debate coach at Lakeland High School from 1988-1997, was a 2002 graduate of Reppers School of Auctioning, a 2004 graduate of Real Estate Certification of Indianapolis sales person and 2005 graduate Real Estate Certification of Indianapolis Brokers.
McKowen purchase the real estate practice of Tom Schrock and started 1st Dibs Auction & Realty in 2006. And then in 2007 he became a graduate certified estate specialist through the National Auctioneering Association.
McKowen has been married to his wife Amy since September 1992. They have one son, Conner Douglas, who is 11 years old and fourth-grader.

What make you the more qualified candidate?


I’m willing to tackle tough issues and bring about change with my communication skills. I have a strong desire to serve my community to improve what I can.

What issues do you believe need to be addressed and why?


Economic development that is diversified and preserves our heritage.
