Labor Day


The Library will be closed Sept. 2 for Labor Day.  

After-school programs

Library staffers will be hosting “After School is Cool! Tuesdays” starting Sept. 3.

On Sept. 3 at 3:30 p.m., a recently released movie about teens and the beach will be shown. The movie is rated G and runs 91 minutes. Popcorn and drinks will be served.

On Sept. 10, there will be Craft Day at the library from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Attendees will make note pads.

An outdoors activity is planned for Sept. 17, weather permitting. On Sept. 24, Whisper the dog will be at the library from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Students can sign up to read to Whisper for 20 minutes. Sign-up is at the children’s desk.  

Book sale

The Friends of the Library group has an ongoing book sale in the library meeting room when the library is open. The Friends are also selling cookbooks for $15.   

Library cards

National Library Card Sign-Up month is celebrated every September. Cards are available at the library for people living in Van Buren and East Jefferson townships who provide proof of residence.

Students, teachers and staff in the Wawasee School Corp. are also eligible for a library card.

Storytime Express


Storytime Express sessions are set for Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Stories about brothers and sisters will be featured this week, and fingerplays, songs and a craft are planned.

This program is free, and is recommended for children ages 2 to 5.

Percy Jackson

“Series of Series Book Party: Percy Jackson” is set for Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the library.

Activities, trivia and snacks related to the books will be offered. Attendees should read at least the first book before attending the party. Participants must register in advance at the Children’s Desk or by calling 537-0241.  

Reading clubs

The Second-Grade Reading Club will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. every Monday, Sept. 9 through Nov. 4, in the Children’s Storyhour room. Register by calling the Children’s desk at 537-0241.

Boys & Girls Book Clubs are also set to meet. Each club will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday for boys and every Thursday for girls, Sept. 9 through Nov. 4, in the Children’s Storyhour room. These book clubs are open to children in grades three through five. Register by calling the Children’s Desk at 537-0241.

Labor Day

The library will be closed on Labor Day.

  • LIBRARY NEWS: Hypnotherapist coming to Syracuse Angie Hernandez, certified Hypnotherapist, is presenting a session on using Emotional Freedom Technique, also called tapping, on from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. People are invited to a free class to experiment with this technique for self-healing. Nick Ortner, author of The Tapping Solution, says EFT is a type of meridian tapping that combines ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology. Last weekend (July 12) the Goshen Parks Department held its Kid’s Try-athlon to promote childhood fitness and this week (July 18) the new bicycle trail is open to the fairgrounds in Goshen, offering residents a healthy way to get to the annual agriculture exposition.
