Chamber concert set

---- — GOSHEN — Principal members of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic will perform a chamber concert Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. in the Goshen College Music Center’s Rieth Recital Hall.

The ensemble, named Freimann, will present chamber works for solo winds, strings and piano in unusual combinations as part of the 2013-2014 Rieth Chamber Series.

The ensemble is comprised of some of the most prominent members of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic: David Ling, violinist and concertmaster; Olga Yurkova, principal second violinist; Derek Reeves, principal violist; Melita Hunsinger, principal cellist; Adrian Mann, principal bassist; Alexander Kelpach, principal pianist; Campbell MacDonald, principal clarinetist; and Orion Rapp, principal oboist.

Freimann’s program will include performances of Benjamin Britten’s “Phantasy Quartet for Oboe, Violin, Viola and Cello, Op. 2”; Mozart’s “Kegelstatt Trio for Clarinet, Viola and Piano, K. 498”; and Antonín Dvorák’s “String Quintet in G Major, Op. 77.”

Prior to the Freimann performance, music will be provided by the Youth Honors Symphony Orchestra Brass Ensemble, comprised of members of the YHSO. The ensemble’s short program will include music by Jean Sibelius.

This concert is the third in Goshen College’s new Rieth Chamber Series. Upcoming Rieth Chamber Series events include performances by organist Daniel Bayless (Feb. 9), early music ensemble Fleur de Lys (April 13), and Spektral Quartet with bandoneonist Julien Labro (May 17).
