‘Yak, Snack and Read’


A “Yak, Snack and Read” book discussion session is set for Feb. 19. The 1 p.m. “yak” will focus on “How To Make An American Quilt” by Whitney Otto. The featured book at the 7 p.m. gathering will be “Crow Lake” by Mary Lawson. Stop by the front desk to pick up a book for either session.

Cinema Showcase

The public is invited to the library Tuesday at 1 p.m. to see the drama “Won’t Back Down.” The film is about two determined mothers looking to transform their children’s failing inner-city school.

Children’s programs

Sign up for Children’s Winter/Spring Programs by calling or stopping by the Children’s Desk. “Babies and Books” (for children 18 months old and younger) meets Thursdays at 11 a.m., “Toddler Time” (for children 18 to 36 months old) meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m., and “Pre-School Story Time” (for children ages 3 to 5) Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11 a.m. See the Kids homepage at the library website for program details.

‘Valentines for Vets’


The public is invited to visit the library to make valentines for veterans. Materials will be provided

Preschool Storytime

Registration is under way for Spring Storytime. Sessions will begin toady at 10:30 a.m. and at 12:30 p.m. Children ages 3 to 5 are invited to participate. They will listen to stories, hear music and make a craft to take home.

Otaku Club

Teen Otaku Club will meet Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. This club is for teens who are interested in Manga and Anime. Call 848-7458 for details.

Children’s book clubs

Book club members will start out by reading “How to Eat Fried Worms” by Thomas Rockwell. Boys will meet every Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for seven weeks starting this Tuesday. The girls will meet every Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for seven weeks, starting this Wednesday. Children in grades three to five are invited to participate. Registration is under way.

Consultant to speak

Edward Jones consultant Ross Hougland will explain the terms “debt ceiling” and “fiscal cliff” during a presentation Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Club to meet

The Book Club’s next meeting will be Feb. 13 at noon. The featured book will be “An Unlikely Friendship” by Ann Rinaldi. Copies will available at the circulation desk.   

‘Calling All Crafters’

The Calling All Crafters circle will meet Feb. 12 and 26 at 6 p.m. Call 848-7458 for more information.

Making soap

Chrystal Pedler will be at the library Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. to demonstrate how to make soap.

  • LIBRARY NEWS: Hypnotherapist coming to Syracuse Angie Hernandez, certified Hypnotherapist, is presenting a session on using Emotional Freedom Technique, also called tapping, on from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. People are invited to a free class to experiment with this technique for self-healing. Nick Ortner, author of The Tapping Solution, says EFT is a type of meridian tapping that combines ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology.
