BRISTOL — Organizers say a sold-out crowd last weekend selected four comedy troupes to compete for the title of Comedy Criminal of the Year this coming Saturday at the Bristol Opera House.

Improv comedy troupes moving on to the finals are: Main on Main, Syracuse; Indiana Comedy Sportz, Indianapolis; Funraisers, Inc., Granger; and Sheboygan, from Chicago.

The event is a fundraiser for Elkhart Civic Theatre at the Bristol Opera House. The winner will be selected via audience votes and evaluation by four judges: Chicago Comedy Film Festival founder Jessica Hardy, WNIT-TV personality Gordy Young, Elkhart Truth Managing Editor Marshall King and WVPE Morning Host Michael Linville.

“Comedy Criminals has turned out to be a great event for us, “ said Dave Dufour, Elkhart Civic Theatre executive director.  “The audience loved it, and so did the competing comedy troupes. We’ve been very gratified by the response. It’s been a success all around.”

Comedy Criminals finals start at 7:30 p.m. Beer, wine and food will be available. Tickets cost $12 and can be purchased online at www.elkhartcivictheatre.org or by calling 574-848-4116 Friday from 1 to 5:30 p.m.

Organizers say Comedy Criminals comes with a “PG16” rating, and parents should use their discretion in determining if this event is appropriate.
