Goshen News

---- — NAPPANEE — Performances of “The Wizard of Oz” are underway at The Amish Acres Round Barn Theatre in Nappanee.

Since 1939, audiences around the globe have marveled at L. Starring Judy Garland, the 1939 “Wizard of Oz” film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, but lost the race to “Gone With the Wind.” Commemorating the film’s 75th anniversary in 2014 — and marking 10 years since its debut on the Joseph Stein Stage — the Round Barn Theatre crew is presenting the shown through Dec. 31.

Adapted from the 1900 novel by L. Frank Baum, “The Wizard of Oz” tells the tale of little Dorothy Gale, an innocent Kansas farm girl who dreams of a better world “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” When Dorothy is thrust into the eye of a tornado and lands in the fantasy world of Oz, she soon finds herself in much trouble with three unusual but earnest friends she encounters on her journey down the Yellow Brick Road, an evil witch at her heels, and no way to get home.

The Round Barn “Oz” is being directed and choreographed by Round Barn Theatre Artistic Director Jeremy Littlejohn and stars RBT newcomer Elizabeth Wyld as Dorothy Gale. Wylde recently graduated from the Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia and was featured in the full-length independent feature film “Ghosting” with the Mont Alto Film Project. Wyld is joined onstage by three Round Barn alumni: Ramaad Morris as the Scarecrow, RBT Music Director Travis Smith as the Tin Man and Rory Dunn as the Cowardly Lion.

“The Wizard of Oz” performance schedule includes 2 p.m. matinees and 8 p.m. showtimes. A complete show schedule and ticket information is available by calling The Round Barn Theatre Box Office at 800-800-4942 ext. 2, or going online to www.amishacres.com.
