---- — ELKHART — Upcoming performances have been scheduled at The Lerner Theater, 410 S. Main St., Elkhart.

“Contemporary Nutcracker” shows are scheduled at 2 and 7 p.m. Nov. 30. Doors open an hour prior to showtime.

The Lerner version does not use the traditional Tchaikovsky score, but the storylines are similar. A synopsis of the show reads:

“... Klara is a homeless girl living in today’s busy world with the hustle and bustle of people preparing for the holiday season. The Nutcracker transforms into a prince and takes Klara to visit the Sugar Plum Fairy and her kingdom. Along the way there are dancing snowflakes, graceful fairies and waltzing flowers. There are dances from China, Russia, Spain, Turkey and our Native America. Klara finds her family with the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Prince.”

On Dec. 1, a Patchwork Dance Company performance of “Christopher’s Christmas” is set for 3 p.m. Doors open at 2. The action revolves around a young mouse named Christopher and how he rekindles a feeling for Christmas in the cynical heart of his great uncle mouse.
