Book discussion


Syracuse library staffers will host a book discussion about “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail.” “Wild” is about a young woman who with no experience in hiking sets off on a nine-month trek from the Mohave Desert to Washington state.

The Adult Book Club will meet Oct. 9 at 6:30 to discuss “Wild.” Library staff can assist patrons with getting a copy of the book either through Evergreen or a special reserve. For more information, call the library at 574-457-3022.

Library staffers ask patrons to pardon the noise and dust. Updates to the library building are underway, with construction taking place all this month.

Book sale

A Friends of the Library book sale is set at the library Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Fall programs

Openings are still available for the library’s Babies and Books, Toddler Time, Story Time and Home School Club fall programs. Call or stop by the library to register. See the Kids homepage on the library website for program details.

Book discussion

The theme this fall of the “Let’s Talk About It” book discussion series is “Muslim Journeys: Connected Histories.”  The first featured book will be “When Asia Was the World” by Stewart Gordon. Steven Gerencser of Indiana University — South Bend will present the lecture Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. Patrons are invited to stop by the library to register and pick up the first book. Story Hour


A fairy tale about very large plants will be the theme for Story Hour Sept. 23 and 24 at 10:15 a.m. Children ages 3 to 5 years old will participate in an activity. Registration is required.

Toddler Time

A paper-plate turtle will be the craft for Toddler Time on Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. Children ages 25 to 36 months and accompanied by an adult are invited to attend this program. Registration is required. A story about turtles will be presented.

Book Bites

Children ages 3 to 5 years old can attend Book Bites Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. Participants will hear several stories and participate in a craft or activity. No registration is required.

Dial A Story

Dial A Story for this week will be “How the Rhinoceros Got His Skin.” Hear this tale by calling 862-4441.

  • LIBRARY NEWS: Hypnotherapist coming to Syracuse Angie Hernandez, certified Hypnotherapist, is presenting a session on using Emotional Freedom Technique, also called tapping, on from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
