Fall, winter hours


The library will now be open Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. Regular library hours also include Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday from 1 to 8 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mother Goose Monday

Mother Goose Monday Nursery Rhyme Time sessions are underway. Rhyme Time takes place Mondays at 10:30 a.m. The program features stories, songs, fingerplays, rhymes and play activities. The program is free and no registration is necessary. Mother Goose Monday is recommended for children up to 2 years old and their caregivers, and takes place in the Schrock Auditorium.

Storytime Express

Storytime Express sessions are set for Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. “Giant”-themed stories and a craft will be offered. This program is free and is recommended for children ages 2 to 5.

Reading clubs

The Second-Grade Reading Club will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. every Monday through Nov. 4 in the Children’s Story Hour room. Register by calling the Children’s Desk at 537-0241.

Crafty Bandits

The Crafty Bandits group will meet Sept. 23 in the Auditorium from 4 to 5:30 p.m. This month, the Bandits can learn how to marbleize paper using spray paint. This program is open to all young people in grades six through 12. Register by calling 533-9531 or stopping in at the library circulation desk.

‘Series of Series’

The next “Series of Series” book party is set for Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Activities, trivia and snacks related to the “Harry Potter” books will be featured. Registration is required. Sign up at the Children’s Desk or by calling 537-0241.

Science Club


The Nappanee library’s Super Science Saturday Club will begin its 2013-2014 season with a rocket build and launch at its next meeting Sept. 28.

Children will meet at the library at 10 a.m. to learn rocket design basics and then travel off-site to launch rockets.  Parent or guardian participation is requested.

This program for children in grades one through 5 is led by Jim Myers and meets at the library monthly during the school year.

  • LIBRARY NEWS: Hypnotherapist coming to Syracuse Angie Hernandez, certified Hypnotherapist, is presenting a session on using Emotional Freedom Technique, also called tapping, on from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. People are invited to a free class to experiment with this technique for self-healing. Nick Ortner, author of The Tapping Solution, says EFT is a type of meridian tapping that combines ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology. Tapping utilizes the body’s energy meridian points by stimulating them with your fingertips.
