A concert of ‘Firsts’

Euclid Quartet in concert Sept. 16.


SOUTH BEND — The Euclid Quartet, ensemble in residence at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend, will perform at 4 p.m. Sept. 16.  

The concert titled “Firsts” will take place in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall and will feature the first works for string quartet from three great composers.  The selections are “String Quartet in G minor, Op. 13” by Carl Nielsen, “String Quartet No. 1” by Charles Ives, and “Creole Contradanzas” by Wynton Marsalis.

With members originally from the U.S., Great Britain, Venezuela, and China, the Euclid Quartet has won many prizes at major competitions around the world.  Ara Guzelimian, artistic advisor of Carnegie Hall, praised the group’s “wonderful intensity, insight, and communicative strength.”

Tickets for the Euclid Quartet are available in advance to adults for $10 and to senior citizens for $7.  Tickets are $2 more at the door and are free to students and children.  For more information and to order tickets, visit arts.iusb.edu or call the box office at 574-520-4203.
