Ice sculptors will be at park
Santa’s Pantry and First Baptist Church are starting the New Year with a pay it forward deed (act of kindness) for the community.
On Saturday at 7 p.m. the organizations will have ice sculptors at Nibco Ice and Water Park, 303 Nibco Parkway, in downtown Elkhart, for the community to enjoy.
The sculpting was scheduled for Winterfest in 2012, however the weather was too warm so it was reschedule.
Normal admission and skate rental apply.
Homecoming event scheduled Jan. 25
The annual alumni reception at Elkhart Christian Academy, 25943 C.R. 22, Elkhart, is set for Jan. 25.
The festivities will begin at 6 p.m., followed by homecoming at 7 p.m. and the boys basketball game at 7:30 p.m.
Lecture at GC set for Jan. 14
The lecture “A Good Amish Quilt: Folded Like Money” is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 14 Newcomer Center Room 17 at Goshen College. The public is invited.
The lecturer will be Janneken Smucker, a Goshen College graduate and history professor at West Chester State University in Pennsylvania. Smucker has just published a book, “Amish Quilts: The Story of America’s ‘First Abstract Art,’” exploring these objects and the people who have made, bought, sold, preserved and cherished them.
This public lecture is sponsored by the Mennonite Historical Society. Smucker will give a similar presentation at 10 a.m. Jan. 13 in the college’s Church-Chapel.
Grief support services set
Staffers at Center for Hospice Care has scheduled grief support services for January.
Good Grief Gals Tea — Jan. 24 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. This is a monthly tea for women whose spouses have died.
Good Grief Guys — Jan. 14 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Mayberry Cafe, 736 Middleton Road, Elkhart. This monthly breakfast meeting is for men dealing with the death of a spouse.
Resilience Group — Jan. 20 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This group is for individuals who have completed a Living with Loss Group.
Groups are offered at no cost and are open to the public. All sessions take place at 22579 Old U.S. 20 East in Elkhart unless otherwise noted. Reservations for GOP event due by Jan. 15
The Goshen City Republican Committee will host the fifth annual Ronald Reagan Birthday Dinner Feb. 8. U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski will be the keynote speaker.
The event will take place at Boscos Place, 117 S. Fifth St., Goshen. There will be a social hour and silent auction from 6 p.m. until dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 each or $280 for a table of eight. Tree sale is underway
The Elkhart County Soil and Water Conservation District and Michiana Master Gardeners have begun their 2014 Tree Sale.
The goal of the Elkhart County SWCD and Michiana Master Gardeners is to provide quality tree seedlings to those in the Elkhart County area who would like to plant small quantities of quality hardwood and conifer seedlings. A 10 percent discount will be given on the total dollar amount of an order received in the Elkhart County SWCD office on or before Jan. 3.
Final order deadline for seedlings will be March 7. Tree pickup has been set for April 12.
