---- — GOSHEN — The seventh-annual “Fire and Ice Festival” will take place in downtown Goshen this week during First Fridays.

From 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, members of the Michiana Ice Carvers Association will carve 300-pound blocks of ice in front of various stores. Observers can vote for their favorite ice sculpture via the Facebook page for the event at www.facebook.com/gofridays.

In a thematic combo of sorts, the “Fire and Ice Tower” will be set alight at 7 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue between Main and Third streets.

For those who enjoy snacks in addition to fire and ice, marshmallow roasting is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue between Main and Third streets. Sticks and marshmallows will be provided. Roasters are asked to provide their own graham crackers and chocolate.

Again this year, Pyrotation Nation performers will be putting on a show downtown. Pyrotation Nation bills itself as “a group of unique, like-minded individuals who manipulate fire using a variety of props and devices.” The group’s showcase will take place on Lincoln Avenue between Main and Third Streets from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with a finale planned near the courthouse.

Art House

Other highlights of this month’s First Fridays include a “soft opening” from 5 to 9 p.m. for Goshen’s new Art House Cinema, located at 211 S. Main St. above Back Alley Brewery.

Visitors are invited to watch a series of micro-short films, review Art House’s inaugural line-up of independent films, and relax in the theater seating and lounge area. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
