Locals to headline at Ignition Garage this month

New Year's Eve party to feature Andru Bemis, Von Strantz, Shiny Shiny Black.

Ignition Music Garage is featuring local talent this month.

Ignition Music Garage’s owner has been working to build the local live music scene since its opening in early 2012. The venue has hosted more than 40 national recording acts in its listening room.

“As more and more people become aware of our space, we are getting an increasing number of requests to use the space for shows, fund-raisers, and private parties,” said founder Steve Martin. “We have had poetry reading, one-act plays, improv comedy, old time music jams and a few dance parties. From the beginning, we have hoped that Ignition can be home to a growing local music scene.”

“As a record store and music venue we are going to focus first and foremost on musical performances,” he said.

The Electric Brew had been booking national, regional and local artists during its time on Main Street. The Brew’s new space, next to Ignition Music Garage, will not work for more than a solo acoustic artist, according to Martin.

“We want to continue their tradition of providing a stage for local musicians and help them in their growth as artists,” Martin said. “Our December events will showcase the amazing talent we have locally. We are really encouraged that our Christmas show on Dec. 15 was standing room only. It featured 11 local acts. There is enough talent here to support a vibrant music scene. We are hoping that the audience appetite is there as well.”

On Dec. 31, Ignition Music Garage will hold a “Brew Showcase” featuring local artists performing their own original works.

“With sponsorship from Myron Bontrager and The Electric Brew and a dedicated group of volunteers we think we can make local music work on our stage,” Martin said.

Scheduled to perform on New Year’s Eve are Andru Bemis, Von Stranz and Shiny Shiny Black. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. and concert tickets are $12.

Ignition Music Garage is located at 120 E. Washington St. in Goshen.
