“Ozzie & Harriet & Shakespeare: An Evening with Hamlet” is planned at the library Tuesday.
Starting at 6 p.m., a 1954 episode of “Ozzie & Harriet” will be shown. In the show, Ozzie decides to read “Hamlet” aloud to the family because David is studying the play in school. Before the reading can begin, a mysterious stranger appears. With his help, the Nelsons and various neighbors participate in a “Hamlet” production in the Nelsons’ living room.
After the show, a poll will be taken to see how many people would like to follow the Nelson family’s example. Shakespearean Appreciation Society organizers said, “With at least four people and a great big dictionary close at hand, let’s meet once a week to read aloud and — if we’re brave enough — act out Hamlet. We’ll meet in a private room — we’re not performing, just appreciating — and have fun learning together, stopping for discussion any time we get confused.”
Volunteers are available in the Genealogy Department to help the public. Genealogical Society volunteers are available every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. LaGrange County Daughters of the American Revolution volunteers are available the second Tuesday of each month from 1 to 5 p.m.
The Second Saturday Book Club is scheduled to meet this coming Saturday at the library at 11 a.m. This month, club members are reading “On Canaan’s Side” by Sebastian Berry.
