Thefts, burglaries reported

Multiple theft and burglary reports were recently reported to local police:

• Correy Yoder, 71395 C.R. 25, New Paris, told Elkhart County police that someone entered his home Tuesday by removing a piece of glass and breaking a door. A 60-inch LCD television was taken during the burglary. The incident took place between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m.

• Brian Miller, 18865 C.R. 14, Bristol, told Elkhart County police a barn on his property had been burglarized between 7 p.m. Monday and 7 p.m. Tuesday. Multiple hand and power tools were taken.

• Angel Chavarria of Goshen told Goshen police Wednesday that someone stole his touchscreen compact disc player from his vehicle while the automobile was parked in the 800 block of North Eighth Street.

• Yvonne Schwartz, 20292 C.R. 36, Goshen, told Elkhart County police that several prescription medications were taken from her home between 4 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday.

• Staff at Eby Ford Lincoln Mercury, 2714 Elkhart Road, Goshen, told Goshen police Wednesday that someone stole a spare tire and wheel from a new vehicle on the sales lot.

• Anthony Amaya, 702 S. Eighth St., reported a possible burglary at his home to Goshen police Wednesday.

• Yvonne Schwartz, 20292 C.R. 36, Goshen, told Elkhart County police that several prescription medications were taken from her home between 4 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Robbery reported

A 25-year-old Elkhart man told Goshen police he was robbed Wednesday in downtown Goshen.

The incident reportedly occurred around 4:39 p.m. in the 100 block of North Fifth Street. The man told police he was sitting in his parked vehicle when he was grabbed from behind and choked until he passed out. He reported that when he regained consciousness, he found his cash had been taken from him and the robber had fled the scene.

Police said the man refused any type of medical assistance and had no other visible injuries.

  • Suspicious blinking package with battery pack causes police to evacuate business area

    A package with a battery pack and a blinking red light found on the desk of an employee at MSC, 28551 Laura Court, Elkhart, caused police and firefighters to evacuate the area this morning.
    The package turned out to be a GPS tracking device and not a bomb.
