Child hurt after wagon hit by SUV

— A Middlebury child was seriously injured Friday when the wagon she was riding in was struck by an SUV.

The crash occurred around 9:45 a.m. on C.R. 22 east of C.R. 31, southwest of Middlebury. Elkhart County police said a 2003 GMC Yukon driven by Janet L. Dabney, 70, Goshen, struck the rear of a horse-drawn wagon operated by Linda K. Yoder, 29, Middlebury. Yoder and passenger Janell D. Yoder, 5, Middlebury, were thrown from the wagon.

Janell Yoder was transported to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries. She suffered head injuries and had loss of consciousness. Yoder’s condition was listed as serious Friday afternoon.

Linda Yoder suffered head and lower back injuries which police indicated weren’t life-threatening. She was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for treatment.

Man arrested on murder charge

Police have arrested a man in connection with a double homicide Thursday at an Elkhart business.

Kevin Moore, 28, Elkhart, is incarcerated in the Elkhart County jail on a murder charge.

Jagtar Bhatti, 55, and Pawan Singh, 20, both of Elkhart, were shot dead Thursday morning at Saleh’s Supermarket, 401 Middlebury St. Police were called to the scene around 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Bhatti and Singh were store employees.

Investigators on Thursday said they were looking for two or more perpetrators.

Crash reports

• A Goshen bicyclist was listed in critical condition Friday at Memorial Hospital in South Bend following a crash Thursday.

The crash occurred at 6:23 p.m. on C.R. 127 north of C.R. 28, two miles east of Goshen. Dale Ewers, 38, was cycling east on the bike path west of C.R. 127. Elkhart County police said Ewers was struck by a Toyota Highlander when he started to crass C.R. 127 in the southbound vehicle’s path.

Ewers suffered head injuries and a fractured left leg and was transported to Memorial Hospital.

• Two people were hurt when a car collided with a mo-ped in Goshen Wednesday.

The crash occurred around 5 p.m. at Wilden Avenue and Georgia Road. Goshen police said a 2001 Ford Taurus SE driven by Salma Torrejon, 17, Goshen, collided with a mo-ped ridden by Carlos Garcia, 24, Elkhart.

Garcia suffered minor bleeding as a result of the crash. Torrejon had abdominal pain.

Theft/burglary reports

• Randall Wedge, 57458 C.R. 27, Goshen, told Elkhart County police that someone stole a Dodge Durango from his residence between 4 p.m. Monday and 5:03 p.m. Thursday.

• Robert Herrli told Elkhart County police that someone stole at Bobcat and trailer at 52090 C.R. 21, Bristol, between 9 and 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

• Chrystal Goble of Goshen told city police Thursday that someone stole her child’s bicycle at 500 Mercer Ave.

• Deja Thomas, 2628 Ashton Pines Drive, told Goshen police Thursday that someone stole around $150 from her apartment this week. She made an additional report of residential entry and theft to Goshen police Friday.

• James Wellington of Goshen told city police Thursday that someone stole a cell phone from his vehicle while it was parked at 116 W. Washington St.

• Stacy Callahan, 201 Crescent St., told Goshen police Thursday that someone stole medication and several items from her residence.

• Dennis Mast of Shipshewana told Goshen police Thursday that someone burglarized his rental property at 213 1/2 Crescent St.

• Ellis Bail, 352 Roxbury Park, Goshen, told city police Friday his residence had been burglarized.

• Stephanie Paxton of Goshen told Elkhart County police her debit card number was fraudulently used at a Family Dollar in Detroit between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 a.m. Tuesday.

• Vivian Arousell, 15301 Larry Lee Drive, Bristol, told Elkhart County police that someone stole a $200 check out of her mailbox, forged her name and cashed it between Aug. 4 and Wednesday.

• Randy Harrison of Florida told Elkhart County police Wednesday that someone entered his vehicle and took a key from the ignition while the vehicle was parked at Quality Drive Away, 64825 C.R. 31, Goshen.

• Derrick Bramley told Elkhart County police that someone took his cell phone from his locker at the Elkhart County work release center, 201 N. Cottage Ave., between Aug. 23 and Thursday.

Vandalism/criminal mischief reports

• Goshen police on Thursday reported damage to a vehicle at 624 E. Jackson St. registered to Quality Vend, Goshen.

• James Maxwell of Goshen told city police Thursday that someone threw eggs and a rock at his truck while the vehicle was at 1204 Division St.

Traffic arrests

• Daniel Ortiz-Ortiz, 23, 202 N. Ninth St., Goshen, was arrested after a traffic stop around 3:52 a.m. Friday at C.R. 20 and Pleasant Ave. in Elkhart. He was arrested on a charge of driving while never receiving a driver’s license.

Alcohol/drug arrests

• Todd A. Williams, 36, was arrested by Elkhart County police after a traffic stop around 10:38 p.m. Thursday on C.R. 17 south of Ind. 120. Police said Williams was in possession of methamphetamine, controlled substances, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was incarcerated.

• Goshen police arrested a 17-year-old student at Goshen High School Thursday on a charge of possession of a marijuana.

OWI arrests

The following motorists were arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated:

• William M. Hamilton, 50, 774 Broadmore Estates, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police after a traffic stop around 5 p.m. Thursday in the area of Indiana and Chicago avenues. In addition to the OWI, Hamilton was also jailed on a charge of driving while his driving privileges were suspended.
