7-year-old Topeka boy dies after being struck by a truck

TOPEKA — A 7-year-old boy riding his bicycle out of his driveway was struck by a truck at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, and later died of his injuries.

Killed was Myron E. Hostetler, 7, 6600 S. 400 West, Topeka.

LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Ed Flowers reported that A 2013 Dodge 2500 driven by Josiah D. Yoder, 18, LaGrange, was driving north along C.R. 400 West when a bicyclist, Hostetler, rode his bike out of a driveway, onto the road and into the path of the truck.

Hostetler was struck by the front bumper, hood, grill and headlight assembly with his body and head before being thrown onto the road, police reported.

Hostetler was airlifted by a Samaritan helicopter to a hospital in Fort Wayne, where he later died that evening of his injuries.
