School bus driver injured in crash
A Concord school bus driver was injured when her bus was struck by a truck that had slid on some ice at 8:05 a.m. Tuesday.
According to Elkhart County police, a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Randy T. Johnson, 43, Goshen, was southeast-bound on Wilden Avenue attempting a right turn onto Greene Road.
Elna A. Hussey, 53, Goshen, was driving Concord Community Schools bus 33 north on Greene Road.
Cpl. Casey Lehman reported that a puddle had frozen over at the intersection, causing part of the intersection to be ice covered. As Johnson was attempting the right turn, his truck slid on the ice causing the truck to crash into the bus.
Hussey suffered left knee pain. There was one person besides Hussey in the bus at the time of the crash.
Johnson was not injured and received a warning from police about driving at a reduced speed when conditions require it.
Two injured in crash
A Nappanee man was injured in a two-vehicle crash at Ind. 19 and C.R. 42, a mile south of Wakarusa at 4:58 p.m. Monday.
According to Elkhart County police, Dale E. Fothergill, 72, Elkhart, was driving a 2001 Dodge Caravan east on C.R. 42 and stopped at the Ind. 19 intersection. The van entered the intersection and collided with a 2001 Chevrolet Prism driven by Richard Fattorusso, 52, Nappanee. The Prism was southbound on Ind. 19.
Fattorusso suffered neck and back pain and was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.
A passenger in the Caravan, Paul Spencer, 78, Portland, Ore., complained of abdominal pain and was also taken to Elkhart General Hospital.
Fothergill was cited for failure to yield right of way.
• Dustin Klaus, 23, 27536 Bison Ridge, Elkhart, was arrested at 12:13 a.m. Saturday on a charge of battery. He is accused of battering a 23-year-old woman, who suffered an injury to her left eye, Elkhart County police reported. Klaus was arrested on charges of domestic battery, strangulation and intimidation.
• A 25-year-old man, employed by Bashor Children’s Home, 62226 C.R. 15, Goshen, told Elkhart County police he was punched and kneed in the head by one of the students at the home who was trying to escape.
