No cause of death for missing Warsaw teen

— The Kosciusko County coroner says he couldn’t determine during an autopsy the cause of death of an 18-year-old woman whose remains were found more than a year after she was reported missing.

Coroner Michael Wilson says the remains of Aurora Shoemaker of Warsaw are being sent to the University of Indianapolis for further analysis.

She was last seen in August 2012 after leaving her mother’s home for a walk. Her remains were found Sunday about 500 yards from her home by teenagers playing in the woods.

Wilson says it likely will be about a month before any further information is available.

Rapes reported

at Notre Dame

Officials at the University of Notre Dame are investigating reports of three rapes and one attempted rape reported on the campus in less than a month.

Three rapes were reported to Notre Dame Security Police in September, while the attempted rape was reported to an administrator. The university had eight reports of rapes in total for the three previous years combined.

University spokesman Dennis Brown says the allegations are under investigation. Brown says the number of sexual assault-related crimes was expected to increase because of the university’s efforts to increase awareness of what constitutes sexual violence and how to report it.

The U.S. Department of Education in April 2011 outlined to colleges nationwide their responsibilities in confronting sexual assaults.
