A Cromwell man has been charged in connection with a 2011 traffic crash that resulted in another motorist’s death.
Noble County Prosecutor Steven T. Clouse announced Tuesday that criminal charges have been filed against James L. Gaylord, 60, Bause Lake Drive. Gaylord faces Class C felony charges of reckless homicide and causing death when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Clouse said Gaylord was arrested late Monday evening after charges were filed earlier that day in Noble Circuit Court.
The charges stem from a collision that occurred July 1, 2011, on Noble County Road 200 South near the intersection of C.R. 1050 West. Police said a Buick LaSabre driven by Gaylord collided with a vehicle driven by Thomas R. Davidsen.
Davidsen died July 7, 2011, at the age of 85 in a Fort Wayne Hospital. According to Clouse, Allen County Coroner’s staff reported that Davidsen’s cause of death was blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen due to the vehicle crash.
Police allege that Gaylord was intoxicated at the time of the collision. According to Noble County police, Gaylord was driving 78 mph when the crash occurred.
A Class C felony is punishable by a term of imprisonment of two to eight years.
