Divers have recovered the body of a missing fisherman from a northeastern Indiana lake.
Indiana conservation officers say divers recovered the body of 43-year-old Douglas Haigwood of Kimmell from Mud Lake in Chain O’ Lakes State Park on Monday afternoon. The park is about 20 miles northwest of Fort Wayne.
Officers began searching for Haigwood after getting a call that he had not returned from ice fishing Sunday night. They found his fishing gear on the ice on the lake, but were unable to locate Haigwood.
Police investigatefatal shooting
Elkhart County Sheriff’s detectives are continuing their investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred in the Deer Creeke Apartment complex along Toledo Road Sunday night.
The victim, who has been identified as 26 year old Anthony B. Perez of Elkhart, was found deceased inside of an apartment upon police officers’ arrival.
Police said an autopsy was performed on Perez, and it was determined that he died from a gunshot wound and found that he died from a gunshot wound. Perez’s death has been ruled as a homicide.
Motorist suffersheart attack
A 69-year-old LaGrange man died after suffering a heart attack while driving near Howe around 8:15 a.m. Friday.
According to LaGrange County police, Robert L. Haston was driving a 2005 Chevy Trail Blazer on Ind. 120, and the vehicle struck a tree after Haston passed out from an apparent heart attack.
Witnesses found the driver unresponsive and not breathing, police reported. Emergency responders performed CPR on Haston for 40 minutes after arriving at the scene of the crash.
No skid marks were visible at the crash scene, police reported, and the impact appears to have been at a low speed.
