Two arrested at local restaurant

A 19-year-old Goshen man and a juvenile male were arrested Friday after allegedly trying to gain entry to a motor vehicle.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. Friday at the Burger King located at 4014 Elkhart Road, Goshen. According to Goshen police, Sean Hochstetler, 19, Goshen and a male juvenile were arrested on charges of attempting to make unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.

Police also charged Hochstetler with resisting arrest. He was transported to the Elkhart County Jail and the juvenile was released to his parents.

Crash reports

• Manuel Esqueda, 54, told Goshen police Friday, that someone struck his vehicle around 5 a.m. at 129 Watertower Court, Goshen and left the scene.

• Goshen police reported the stop sign at North Fifth Street and Oakridge Avenue was struck by a semi-truck during the evening Friday and that the driver did not stop and report the damage.

Theft/burglary reports

• Asia Wells, told Goshen police that her cell phone was stolen Friday around 10:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of Mintcrest Drive, Goshen.

• Brenda Speicher, Goshen, told Goshen police Friday around 8 p.m. that someone broke into her friend’s apartment at 2512 W. Clinton St., Apt. 99, Goshen during the overnight hours Thursday.

• A Goshen city employee told Goshen police Friday around 8:45 p.m., that city property located at Crescent Street and Cottage Avenue was stolen.

OWI arrests

• Antonio Rodriguez Leos, 35, 612 Bayberry Drive, Goshen, was arrested at 9:33 p.m. Friday on a charge operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was transported to the Elkhart County Jail.

• Kevid D. Arias-Torres, 28, South Bend, was arrested at 2:32 a.m. Saturday on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was arrested in the 1100 block of West Pike Street and taken to the Elkhart County Jail.

Two men sentenced

in Superior Court 3

Two Goshen men were recently sentenced in Elkhart Superior Court 3:

• Jose Rivera, 30, was sentenced to 12 years in the Indiana Department of Correction on a Class B felony charge of criminal confinement. Six years of that sentence were suspended. Rivera was given 306 days credit for time he was already incarcerated.

• John C. Oosta, 46, was sentenced to 12 years in the Indiana Department of Correction on two Class C felony counts of child molesting. He was given 875 days credit for time he was already incarcerated. Oosta indicated he wants to appeal.

  • Suspicious blinking package with battery pack causes police to evacuate business area

    A package with a battery pack and a blinking red light found on the desk of an employee at MSC, 28551 Laura Court, Elkhart, caused police and firefighters to evacuate the area this morning.
    The package turned out to be a GPS tracking device and not a bomb.
