POLICE NEWS: Syracuse man hurt in home invasion


THE GOSHEN NEWS

— A Syracuse man was injured during a home invasion early Sunday. Two male suspects dressed in black and wearing ski type masks hit Jeremy Smith, 600 N. Harrison, Syracuse, after entering his residence at 12:34 a.m., according to Syracuse police. K-9 units and officers from Kosciusko County police, Indiana State police, North Webster police and Winona Lake police assisted to the call in search for the two white males described as between 5’8” and 6’ and medium builds. Smith was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for treatment of injuries.

• A damaged 1999 Honda belonging to Tamara Douangmala, 21, 423 Arbor Court Apt. 3, Goshen, was found parked in the 900 block of Indiana Avenue by Goshen police. The car had sustained extensive driver side damage and Douangmala told police she hit the bridge in the 1300 block of West Wilden Avenue around 3 a.m. and left the scene Saturday.  She was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of a property damage accident and released on a memorandum to appear in Goshen City court.

Theft/burglary reports

• Anthony Hochstetler, 1200 Cosmo St., Goshen, told Goshen police someone entered his vehicle and took his wallet around midnight Saturday.

• Phillip L. Stoll, 1807 Mayfield Drive, Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole prescription medications out of his truck  between 2 p.m. Friday and midnight Saturday.

• Ryan Parson, 808 S. Eighth St., Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole his bicycle at his residence sometime April 8.

• Arturo Garcia of Goshen told Goshen police someone stole a car dolly from the rear of the old Viper Auto Body service building, 2452 E. Kercher Road, Goshen, around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

• Hellen Howard of Goshen told Goshen police someone stole her black snap on purse containing her credit cards and debit cards from Save A Lot, 1401 College Ave., Goshen around 1 p.m. Saturday after she accidently forgot it at the store. Howard told police her debit card was fraudulently used Saturday evening at Martins Supermarket, 1527 Bashor Road, Goshen.

Vandalism/criminal mischief reports

• Trista Nunemaker of Middlebury told Goshen police someone damaged her vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot of Sam’s Club, 4024 Elkhart Road, Goshen, at 5:35 p.m. Friday.

Traffic arrests

• Ricardo Negrete Bernal, 39, 1701 Roc Lane, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police on a charge of false informing during a traffic stop at Lincoln Avenue and Seventh Street in Goshen at 4:12 p.m. Friday. He was transported to the Elkhart County jail.

•  Michael Whitaker, 29, 702 S. Seventh St. Apt. 3, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police on a charge of a habitual traffic violator at 3:20 p.m. Friday. He was stopped at the intersection of College Avenue and Dierdorff Road in Goshen for a traffic infraction and transported to the Elkhart County jail.

Drug/alcohol arrests

• Scottie Hall, 30, 517 New York, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop for no tail lights near the intersection of E. Jackson and S. 13th streets in Goshen at 6:23 p.m. Friday. He was incarcerated at the Elkhart County jail.

• Goshen police were called to McKee’s Bar, 1914 Elkhart Road, Goshen, for a fight involving several people at 12:33 a.m. Saturday. Heather Holman of Kimmel told police she was struck in the left eye and transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital. Ociel Vallejo, 26, 12656 N. 250 East, Milford, was arrested by Goshen police on a charge of intoxication, battery causing injury and possession of marijuana. Vallejo was incarcerated at the Elkhart County jail.

• Tyler Pumfrey, 18, 202 Crescent St., Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police on a charge of illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage near 405 Brookside Manor, Goshen, at 1:04 a.m. Sunday. Gilbert Catano of Goshen told Goshen police he was struck by Pumfrey. Pumfrey was transported to the Elkhart County jail.

OWI arrests

• Alberto Baiza Rodriguez, 41, 1016 S. 16th St. Apt. 6, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police on a charge of driving under the influence after a traffic stop in the area of Plymouth and Lincolnway East for left of center and failure to signal a turn at 3:15 a.m. Sunday. He was transported to the Elkhart County jail.
