Three arrested in drug raids

Kosciusko and Elkhart county drug officers reported the arrest Wednesday of a man they called a major supplier of cocaine in this area.

Elkhart County and Goshen police went to 909 S. Indiana Ave. at 7:45 p.m. Thursday with a search warrant. At that home, they arrested Saul Hernandez, 19, on six counts of dealing in cocaine, all Class A felonies. Another man at the home, Santiago Romero, 23, was arrested on a charge of possession of cocaine, a Class D felony.

Acting on information given to the Elkhart County drug task force, Elkhart and Kosicusko county officers went to the home of Jose Villa Jr., 19, lot 176, Whispering Pines Trailer Court, 340 E. Levi Lee Road, Warsaw, and arrested that man.

Villa was arrested on a charge of dealing cocaine, a Class A felony. Kosciusko County Sheriff Rocky Goshert said authorities found 11 bags of cocaine with a total weight of about one pound (one-half kilo) with a street value of at least $10,000.

Gosheert called this a “huge arrest” by drug police from both counties, calling Villa a major supplier to this area.

Villa was booked into the Kosciusko County jail. Police said Villa is an illegal immigrant and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was notified.

Villa was held on $20,000 bond.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
