UPDATE: Goshen shooting victim identified

Westside resident expected to recover from injuries


GOSHEN — Goshen police have identified the victim in a Friday night shooting on the city’s west side.

The victim is expected to recover, according to police. The shooter remains at large.

At approximately 6:12 p.m. Friday, officers were called to the area of Riverside Boulevard and Clinton Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, 44-year-old Michael Edwards, lying on the ground behind his home at 1310 W. Clinton St. Edwards had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Goshen paramedics arrived and provided emergency aid to the victim. Edwards was transported to the area of Grace Community Church, where he was then airlifted for further care at a hospital in South Bend.  

Edwards continues to receive care for his injuries and is expected to recover, police reported.

The victim said he was standing in his yard when he was approached by a young black male wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt and jeans. Edwards said he believes the suspect was attempting to rob him when the shooting occurred.
