Driver critically injured in Kosciusko County crash

LEESBURG — A one-vehicle crash injured two men — one critically — south of Leesburg Tuesday.

The mishap occurred on C.R. 150 West just south of C.R. 400 North around 5 p.m.

Kosciusko County police said Michael S. Thomas, 29, Warsaw, was driving north in a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro when the vehicle went off the east side of the road, striking a fence, several wooden posts and a tree. Witnesses told police the vehicle appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed.

Thomas was pinned inside the wreckage, suffering from a severe head injury. He was extricated by emergency responders and airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne in critical condition.

A passenger in the vehicle, Joseph G. Haupert, 20, Claypool, suffered head injuries due to the crash and was transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne in serious condition.
