— The driver and passenger of a pickup truck were injured when the truck collided with the rear end of a semi tractor trailer at approximately 2:10 p.m. Sunday in Elkhart.

According to Elkhart County police, the pickup was headed east on C.R. 6, just past the C.R. 11 intersection, when it hit a wet patch in the road and lost traction. The pickup then exited the roadway and collided with the rear of a semi tractor trailer parked on the side of the road.

The pickup suffered significant front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene. The tractor trailer sustained only minor damage.

Following the crash, the driver of the pickup truck was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The passenger in the vehicle reportedly suffered a broken leg and other unknown injuries and was transported via MedFlight to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Goshen woman hurt in crash

A Goshen woman and a Florida man were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 2:30 p.m. Saturday near Elkhart.

According to Elkhart County police, Kayci Mast, 20, Goshen, was driving eastbound on Old U.S. 20, just east of C.R. 1, when her vehicle lost traction on the wet roadway and crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting a second vehicle heading westbound on Old U.S. 20 head on.

Mast was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of two broken vertebrae in the neck and pain to the left hand. The driver of the second vehicle, Brian Bunten, 44, Brandenton, Fla., had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was also transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of a broken left femur and broken finger.

Mast was cited for driving at speeds too fast for weather conditions and failure to provide vehicle insurance.

Two-car crash injures Michigan man

A Michigan man was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 1:45 p.m. Saturday near Elkhart.

According to Elkhart County police, Ryan Borntrager, 30, Goshen, was driving his vehicle northwest on U.S. 33, just east of C.R. 13. A second vehicle, driven by Stanley Shatto, 60, Elkhart, was in front of Borntrager also heading northwest on U.S. 33.

While driving, Shatto reportedly applied his breaks to slow down, resulting in Borntrager’s vehicle colliding with the rear of Shatto’s vehicle.

A passenger in Shatto’s vehicle, Antonio King, 33, Detroit, Mich., was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of lower back pain. Neither Borntrager nor Shatto were injured. No enforcement action was taken.

Assault/battery reports

• Ranferi Jose Mederos, 427 S. Silverwood Lane, Apt. 8, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police at 3:02 a.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Elkhart Road on charges of domestic battery, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and an Elkhart County warrant. He was booked into the county jail.

Invasion of privacy arrests

• Glen Miller, 53, 50636 C.R. 15, Elkhart, was arrested by Goshen police at 11:03 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Eighth Street and New York on charges of invasion of privacy and obstructing traffic. He was booked into the county jail.

Vandalism/criminal mischief reports

• Jenna Perrin, 501 Park West, Goshen, told Goshen police she heard a loud noise outside her residence at approximately 8:23 p.m. Saturday. The residence was checked and damage to the front door was discovered. A report was taken.

Traffic arrests

• Veronica Corona, 28, 304 Oakridge Ave., Apt. A, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police at 3:50 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Fifth Street and Oakridge Avenue on a charge of driving a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. She was released on a memorandum to appear in court.

• Norma Segura, 51, 211 S. Ninth St., Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police at 2:23 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Lincoln and Fifth on a charge of driving a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. She was released on a memorandum to appear in court.

Alcohol/drug arrests

• Dusten Hurt, 20, 1501 Locus St., Apt. 201, Elkhart, was arrested by Goshen police at 4:24 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of West Lincoln Avenue on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into the county jail.

• Jeremy Stump, 26, 701 N. Nappanee St., Nappanee, was arrested by Goshen police at 1:28 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Pike and Indiana on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a memorandum to appear in court.

• Courtney Contreras, 18, 427 S. Silverwood Lane, Apt. 8, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police at 3:02 a.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Elkhart Road on charges of public intoxication, false informing and underage drinking. She was booked into the county jail.

OWI arrests

• Roy H. Ebersole, 27, 212 Winchester Trails, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police at 1:23 a.m. Sunday in the 1800 block of Elkhart Road on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was booked into the county jail.
