Handgun reported at Goshen business was registered


• Theresa D. Atchison, 41, Elkhart, was arrested by Bristol police at 3:45 p.m. Saturday on Elkhart Street in Bristol on several outstanding warrants and charges of driving a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and no financial responsibility. She was booked into the county jail.

Drug/alcohol reports and arrests

• Dean Gongwer of Wakarusa reported to Elkhart County police the remnants of a methamphetamine lab in the area of C.R. 1 and C.R. 42 near Wakarusa Thursday. Indiana State Police were called in to dispose of the lab.

OWI arrests

• David D. Nordman, 43, 55826 C.R. 33, Middlebury, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated by Elkhart County police during a traffic stop at C.R. 17, south of Ind. 120 in Elkhart at 1:22 a.m. Sunday. He was incarcerated at the Elkhart County jail.

• Julio Cervantes, 20, Goshen, was arrested by Elkhart County police at 6:52 p.m. Friday on C.R. 17, just south of C.R. 30, Goshen, on charges of operating a motor vehicle without having received a license and illegal consumption of alcohol. He was booked into the county jail.

• Johnny Alderman, 44, Nappanee, was arrested by Elkhart County police at 11:40 p.m. Friday on U.S. 6, just east of Jackson Street, Nappanee, on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was booked into the county jail.

• Jamie Hicks, 37, Goshen, was arrested by Elkhart County police at 2:53 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Elkhart and Chaptoula, Bristol, on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the county jail.

• Scott W. Hans, 52, Kirkville, Mo., was arrested by Bristol police at 6 a.m. Saturday on C.R. 131, just south of Ind. 120, Bristol, on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was booked into the county jail.

  • Suspicious blinking package with battery pack causes police to evacuate business area

    A package with a battery pack and a blinking red light found on the desk of an employee at MSC, 28551 Laura Court, Elkhart, caused police and firefighters to evacuate the area this morning.
    The package turned out to be a GPS tracking device and not a bomb.
