— Three people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash northwest of Goshen Friday afternoon.

Elkhart County police said the collision took place shortly after 4 p.m. at C.R.s 35 and 28. A 1999 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Tara Fritz, 20, Middlebury, collided with a 1999 Ford Explorer driven by Robert Detweiler, 35, Shipshewana.

Fritz suffered back pain as a result of the crash, and two other passengers in her vehicle were also hurt. Kayla Salchert, 20, Goshen, suffered rib pain and Jake Sheard, 22, Richmond, Ind., suffered a possible fracture to his left clavicle.

Police said Fritz was cited for disregarding a stop sign.

Traffic arrest

• Goshen police arrested a motorist on multiple charges Friday after a series of crashes near downtown.

Juan Cruz, 21, 203 S. Silverwood Lane, Goshen, was arrested at 203 W. Pike St. around 7:40 p.m.

Police said Cruz was arrested on four counts of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash. Two of the collisions reportedly occurred at near the intersection of West Lincoln Avenue and North Second Street, and two at 203 W. Pike St.

Cruz was also arrested on charges of driving while never obtaining a valid driver’s license and driving while intoxicated. Police said Cruz had a breath-alcohol content of .23 percent.

Cruz was incarcerated in the Elkhart County jail.
