Elkhart man injured in shooting accident

— An Elkhart man was transported to the hospital after he was injured in a shooting accidental at a Kosciusko County shooting range.

According to Indiana conservation officers, Joey Douglas, 26, was target shooting at the shooting range on Tri-County Fish and Wildlife property in North Webster when he attempted to fire a round while a previous round was still in the barrel of his gun. Police said the discharge resulted in injuries to Douglas’s wrist and hand.

He was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Crash reports

• A Topeka woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon two miles west of Millersburg.

According to Elkhart County police, Kevin R. Hawkins, 18, Middlebury, was traveling east on C.R. 42 approaching U.S. 33 at 1:19 p.m. While stopped at that intersection, Hawkins saw a vehicle turning onto C.R. 42 and believed he could cross U.S. 33 onto C.R. 42 and continue east, police said.

Hawkins was unaware there was another vehicle behind the turning car, police said. According to the report, Hawkins’ vehicle collided with a 2012 Chrysler driven by Michael Vliet, 30, Topeka.

A passenger in Vliet’s vehicle, Alana Vliet, 25, Topeka, was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital with a complaint of neck pain.

• A Wakarusa woman was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon south of Elkhart.

According to Elkhart County police, Manuel Garcia, 61, South Bend, was exiting U.S. 20 onto Ind. 19 and began to do a U-turn in front of a vehicle traveling south on Ind. 19 at 2:59 p.m, when the vehicles collided.

The driver of the second vehicle, Cheryl Beck, 68, Wakarusa, was transported to Elkhart General Hospital with complaints of wrist and ankle pain.

• Samuel Householder, Goshen, told Goshen police someone struck his vehicle while it was parked in the lot at 111 S. Fifth St. Friday.

• Goshen police responded to 2815 Gateway Drive South, Goshen, in reference to someone who witnessed a vehicle hit another vehicle and leave the scene.

Alcohol/drug arrests

• Steve Whittham, Goshen, 20, was arrested at 210 E. Monroe St. on a charge possession of marijuana, according to Goshen police. He was transported to Elkhart County jail.

Theft/burglary reports

• Patricia Abramson told Goshen police someone stole a wedding band from her home at 705 Arehart St., Goshen Thursday evening. Abramson provided the names of two possible suspects, police said.

• Leslie M. Maze, 36, 1101 West Ave. Goshen, told Goshen police that her television was stolen Friday around 1 p.m.

• Goshen police arrested Florence Howard, 57, of 60389 Fenmore Ave., Goshen on a charge of criminal conversion at 4522 Elkhart Road, Goshen.

Assault/battery reports

• A 61-year-old man told Goshen police he was battered by his 17-year-old daughter at 911 Georgia Road. Police said the juvenile was released to her parents after signing a juvenile social history form.

Neglect

• Goshen police responded to 4024 Elkhart Road for a report of an 8-month-old being left in a locked vehicle. Police located the mother and the child was unharmed. The Department of Child Protective Services was contacted.

• Goshen police were called to 301 Arbor Ridge, Goshen, after a child reportedly fell from a second story window. Police said the child received only scratches. Police contacted the Department of Child Protective Services.

Vandalism/criminal mischief reports

• Jared Blosser, 26, Goshen, told Goshen police the windshield on his 2002 Ford F-350 was smashed while parked at McKee’s Irish Pub, 1914 Elkhart Road, Goshen. Police said a suspect was named but not present when officers arrived.

OWI arrests

• Goshen police arrested Marilyn J. Bontrager, 33, of 2414 W. Clinton Ave., Goshen on a charge of driving under the influence following a traffic stop for speeding and failing to indicate a turn. Police said her Blood Alcohol Content was .11. She was transported to Elkhart County jail.
