Michael Nunez, 33, Elkhart, died at 8 p.m. Monday from injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle collision at C.R. 6 and C.R. 13 near Elkhart, according to Elkhart County police. The crash occurred at 7:45 p.m. Sunday.
According to Elkhart County police, Nunez was driving a red Honda CBR at 97 mph in a 45 mph zone west on C.R. 6, near C.R. 15. Police said Nunez collided with the rear end of a 2005 Chevy Impala, driven by Leola Cochrane of Elkhart. She received no injuries. Nunez was thrown from the motorcycle and transported to Memorial Hospital of South Bend. The crash remains under investigation.
Work release inmates missing
Elkhart County police reported Chet Scott Olsen and Trey Lamar Steiner, 22, are considered absent without leave after failing to return to the work release facility at 201 N. Cottage Ave., Goshen. Olsen failed to return at 2:14 p.m. July 3 and Steiner failed to return at 1:47 p.m. July 8.
Two Goshen men injured in collision
A 2004 Yamaha Moroso mo-ped driven by Jacob W. Stover, 18, Goshen, collided with a 2002 Ford F350 driven by Rodney Snyder, 56, McAlpin, Florida, at Ind. 15 at C.R. 20 near Goshen. The crash occurred at 12:47 p.m. Sunday.
Elkhart County police said Stover and his passenger Cannon Smith, 16, Goshen, complained of leg pain. Stover was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way.
• William Hampton of Bristol reported to Elkhart County police that someone fraudulently used his name and Social Security number to obtain an account with AT&T Uverse at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
• Adam Kauffman, 308 N. Ninth St., Goshen, reported the theft of apples from an apple tree in his yard to Goshen police at 2:04 p.m. Sunday.
• A homeowner at 1600 W. Clinton St., Goshen, told Goshen police someone entered a vehicle parked at the residence, left the passenger door ajar and scattered the contents inside the vehicle. The incident occurred at 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
