A Fort Wayne teenager was injured when his bicycle was struck by a vehicle at 12:16 p.m. Saturday near Goshen. According to Elkhart County police, Santos Valdez, 49, of Indianapolis, was driving his vehicle northbound on U.S. 33 at C.R. 40 when a cyclist in front of him attempted to turn left onto C.R. 40, at which time Valdez told police he struck the cyclist with the right side of his vehicle.
The cyclist, later identified as Owen Krauskopf, 15, of Fort Wayne, told police he thought he had enough time to make the turn in front of Valdez’ vehicle. Krauskopf was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for treatment of an abrasion to his left hand and lacerations to his left and right leg. Valdez was uninjured.
Elkhart police have taken several cases involving counterfeit $20 and $50 bills during the past week. Police are alerting the public and businesses to possible counterfeit $20 and $50 bills in circulation in the Elkhart area. Bristol teen injured
A Bristol teenager was injured when his bicycle was struck by a vehicle at 2:44 p.m. Friday while riding along Ash road. According to Elkhart County police, Dylan Bailey, 14, was traveling east across Ash Road and failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle traveling north on Ash Road south of Old U.S. 20. Bailey reportedly rode in front of the second vehicle, resulting in a collision.
Bailey was transported by ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of abrasions to his head and right knee. The driver of the second vehicle, Jeffrey Cauffman, 44, Mishawaka, was uninjured. No citations were issued.
According to Elkhart County police, Quentin Pittman, 18, Elkhart, was driving a 2001 Chevy Malibu on Ind. 19, north of C.R. 26, and slid into the rear-end of a 2005 Mazda RX6 driven by Jennie Tevlin, 34, Elkhart. The crash occurred at 9:47 a.m. Monday. The collision caused Tevlin to crash into the rear-end of a 2005 Buick Raner driven by Brittany Clow, 31, Osceola. Both drivers were stopped at the intersection according to police. Tevlin was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for complaint of back pain. Pittman was ticketed.
