Investigators from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to investigate a serious personal injury crash that occurred near the Concord Mall at the intersection of U.S. 33 and Sunnyside Avenue at approximately 12:49 p.m. on Saturday.
Injured in the crash was Mark Rich, 14, who was a front seat passenger in a 2010 Mini Cooper that was involved in a collision with a 2005 Chevy Avalanche pickup truck.
Investigators are continuing to investigate and review data collected from the scene and are seeking additional information on witnesses who may have seen this crash and/or the events leading up to this crash. • Two Topeka men were injured when the vehicle they were riding in overturned at 4:44 a.m. Monday near Middlebury. According to Elkhart County police, Ryan Bontrager, 18, Topeka, was driving his vehicle west on C.R. 10, just west of C.R. 43, when his vehicle left the road to the south and struck an embankment before overturning.
Bontrager suffered a fractured right shoulder and complained of right ear pain. A passenger in Bontrager’s vehicle, Maynard Miller, 35, Topeka, complained of neck pain. Both men were transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for treatment of their injuries. No citations were issued.
• A Nappanee man was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 9:03 p.m. Monday on U.S. 6. According to Elkhart County police, Morad Mohammed, 37, Palos Hills, Ill., was driving his vehicle west on U.S. 6 approaching C.R. 23 when he reportedly sideswiped a horse and buggy while attempting to pass on the left. The buggy rolled off the north side of the road before coming to rest.
The driver of the buggy, Karle E. Miller, 62, Nappanee, was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for treatment of lacerations to the head and complaint of neck pain. Mohammed was cited for improper passing.
