Separate Tuesday wrecks cause injuries

Three crashes Tuesday were reported by the Elkhart County police and all three resulted in injury.

• A driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision at U.S. 6 and C.R. 29 near Goshen Tuesday. The crash occurred at 3:21 p.m. A 2005 Mercedes C320 driven by Hilda Padilla, 51, Goshen, failed to yield the right of way on C.R. 29 and drove across U.S. 6 into the path of a 2012 Chrysler 200LX driven by Brandi Napier, 29, Nappanee. Napier was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for complaint of pain to head, left shoulder, left arm and lower back.

Padilla was ticketed for failure to yield right of way and not having a valid driver’s license.

• A driver received injuries after being rear-ended in a two-vehicle crash at C.R.s 17 and 104 near Elkhart Tuesday. The collision occurred at 5:40 p.m. A 1999 Volkswagon Jetta driven by Raquel C. Rich, 19, Elkhart, was unable to stop in time behind a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Brian E. Hack, 48, Edwardsburg, Mich. Hack was stopped behind another vehicle waiting to turn west onto C.R. 104 from C.R. 17. He was transported to Elkahrt General Hosptial for complaint of neck and back pain.

Rich was cited for unsafe speed.

• Two drivers were injured in a two-vehicle collision at C.R.s 17 and 18 Tuesday. The crash occurred at 2:41 p.m. A 2008 Ford Focus driven by Kendra Cundiff, 21, Elkhart, was struck by a 2005 Chevy Silverado driven by Leroy Miller, 70, Goshen. Cundiff was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for complaint of pain to shoulder. Miller complained of shoulder pain. No citations were issued at the scene.

Theft/burglary reports

• Victor Torres, 50928 Oak Tree Lane, Bristol, told Elkhart County police his 37-year-old stepson allegedly stole firearms, ammunition and a 50-inch plasma Emerson television from his residence between Sept. 1 and Monday.

• Carl Salinas, Nappanee, told Elkhart County police someone fraudulently used $1,507.99 from his PayPal account Saturday.

• Larry Clouse, 68047 C.R. 13, Nappanee, told Elkhart County police someone made entry into his detached garage and stole a battery charger, gasoline and keys to two riding lawnmowers between Saturday and Monday.

• Steven Sheets, 15175 Elkhart Road, Goshen, told Elkhart County police someone forced entry into his residence between 5:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Monday.

• Herbert Ulery told LaGrange County police someone stole his black 1999 utility trailer from a storage lot at 11915 W. 750 North, Middlebury, between Sept. 17 and Saturday.

• Barbara Brumbaugh, Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole two bicycles from Greencroft at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

• David Thompson, 612 River Ave., Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole money from his wallet at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Vandalism/criminal mischief reports

• Charles R. Tubbs, 19500 C.R. 14, Bristol, told Elkhart County police someone threw an unknown object into his front window causing a small hole at 1:12 a.m. Wednesday.

• Susan Whatley, 1008 S. Eleventh St., Goshen, told Goshen police someone damaged the engine of her vehicle as a result of pouring a substance other than gas into the gas tank while parked in front of her residence around 9 p.m. Sunday. She told police when she went to drive the vehicle, it quit running and her mechanic is blaming the foreign substance in the gas.

• Goshen police found damage to a window and a door at the Goshen Inn, 1375 Lincolnway East, Goshen, at midnight Sept. 8.

Alcohol/drug arrests

• Andrew J. Mast, 26, 818 S. Thirteenth St., Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop at Jefferson and Washington streets at 2:24 a.m. Wednesday. He was released with a court date at the scene.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
